About me

Hello. My name is Richard Barker, I go by sushiroot online whenever I am doing a creative endeavor (my steam account username will remain a mystery mwhahaha.) I am a young man from the beautiful state of North Carolina, in the United States (a country that has unfortunatly become a late stage capitalist hellscape.) I have been an artist for most of my life, I did acting for a long time and even went to college for it. However after I graduated, I learned that I have a real love for coding and decided to pursue that instead. This website is mostly for me to practice my web development skills. I will probably also use it as a place to put my little prototype games, some photos I take, and to have a little blog. The blog will mostly will be about video games and my obsession with them (an unhealthy and anal obsession with them.) I will also occasionally post stuff about my tabletop rpg games that I DM, so that's fun!

For most of my life I have loved everything in uh 'geek culture' I guess you would say (that's a stupid way to phrase that but I don't know what else to call it.) I love comics, anime, manga, games, TTRPGS, fantasy and sci-fi novels, pretty much the whole shebang. I don't know why really? I find them to be some of the most vibrant and creative hobbies to be into. Plus generally the people into those things are very nice and accepting (generally, definitely not all the time.) I also really like computers and like them more each day as I learn more and more about coding, computers are fun.

I decided to use Neocities as the place to do this stuff because of my deep revulsion and kinda hatred for social network platforms as they exist today. I long for an internet I never really got to be a part of. The internet used to be a wonderful and fantastic invention, an invention for the people, where anyone could connect to anyone from around the world, where ideas and knowledge could be shared freely. There was individualized communities, profiles, websites and the internet didn't just exist to feed shareholders and make a buck (there is a great game called Hypnospace Outlaws all about this.) So the idea behind Neocities is very appealing for me, a place to express myself on the internet without the constant algorithimic/corporate oversight on my back.
